Therefore, when they had come together, they asked Him, saying, “Lord, will You at this time restore the kingdom to Israel?” And He said to them, “It is not for you to know times or seasons which the Father has put in His own authority.  But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”
Acts 1:6-8 (NKJV)

Whether you are in ministry, business, or even retired, it is essential to know that we, as Christians, are responsible for sharing the gospel with others.  This edition of Leadership Helps, and the next one will give you insights as you prepare to share the message of salvation.

Have you ever heard someone share good news?  Maybe a child talking about getting his favorite toy at Christmas, or a childless married couple finding out they were going to have a baby or getting a good report on what was thought to be an ominous test, or a woman getting engaged, or maybe someone who was rescued from a terrible accident or burning building?  Whether it was sharing the good news about getting something or being rescued from something, they were so excited.

Why is it that when we receive the most incredible gift, like eternal life in Christ, and are rescued from the greatest calamity, like separation from God for all eternity, we have such a hard time telling others?

Receiving the most wonderful gift or being rescued from the most dangerous situation cannot compare to the good news in Christ.  Why?  Because none of these last forever.

Why is good news the best news?  Because it lasts forever!

What Makes The Good News – – Good News?

Moreover, brethren, I declare to you the gospel [good news] which I preached to you, which also you received and in which you stand, by which also you are saved, if you hold fast that word which I preached to you—unless you believed in vain.  For I delivered to you first of all that which I also received: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures, and that He was seen by Cephas, then by the twelve.  After that He was seen by over five hundred brethren at once, of whom the greater part remain to the present, but some have fallen asleep.  After that He was seen by James, then by all the apostles.” (1 Corinthians 15:1 – 7)

  1. Good news comes from the Bible term…Gospel.  The word Gospel in Scripture comes from a Greek word that means good news.  So, when you hear Christians using the word gospel, they are talking about good news!
  2. Good news in Scripture most often refers to the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ!  What makes the good news – – the good news is that Jesus Christ died and rose again to pay my sin debt and forgive me…and you…and anyone else, so we can be a member of His family and live with Him as our Father in heaven forever!

Now you tell me, what news is there better than that…really?

Next time we will learn four essential truths in sharing the message of salvation!
