“For consider Him who endured such hostility from sinners against Himself, lest you become weary and discouraged in your souls.”
Hebrews 12:3 (NKJV)
Your mental health is integral to your ministry, business, and every relationship.
The Lord wants you to be healthy in every area of your life—emotionally, spiritually, socially, and physically. You probably have a good idea of how to be healthy spiritually. You likely know about some habits that can help your physical health. But for many leaders, mental and emotional health is ignored.
Paul tells us, “And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by renewing your mind” (Romans 12:2 NKJV). God transforms our minds as we focus on the right truths. Here are three truths you can focus on to improve your mental health:
- Think about Jesus.
You’ve heard the saying, “You become what you think about most.” To become more like Jesus, you must fill your thoughts with God’s Word.
Hebrews 12:3 says, “For consider Him who endured such hostility from sinners against Himself, lest you become weary and discouraged in your souls.” (NKJV)
- Think about others.
The Bible says in Philippians 2:4, “Let each of you look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others.” (NKJV).
Do you realize how countercultural that is? Our world teaches you to think about yourself and nobody else. But Jesus was countercultural, and you’ll naturally think of others when you think about him.
- Think about eternity.
“Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, nor have entered into the heart of man the things which God has prepared for those who love Him.” (1 Corinthians 2:9 NKJV). When you start focusing on truths like that, your problems seem inferior compared to the glory, joy, and pleasure of the things awaiting us in eternity.
Your mind is your greatest asset and your greatest battleground. Ask God to help you make the daily choice to feed on God’s Word, free your mind of destructive thoughts, and fill your mind with Jesus, others, and eternity. Then you’ll have won the battle.
